Africa’s young, increasingly urban population, growing middle class and improving infrastructure will drive passenger traffic to grow by nearly 6% annually through 2045, one of the fastest rates globally. The region’s commercial airplane fleet will more than double from 755 to 1,625 over the next 20 years to meet this demand, according to Boeing’s 2026 Commercial Market Outlook (CMO) for Africa.
Of the nearly 1,200 new aircraft expected to be delivered by 2045, 870 will be single-aisle jets to support expanding domestic and regional networks. Demand for wide-body aircraft will more than double, supporting fleet modernisation and long-haul network growth.
